Award-winning church design
As the holiday season brings reflection and gratitude, we’re looking back at one of the meaningful church projects we had the privilege of contributing to. Second Baptist, one of the largest congregations in the nation, partnered with Kirksey Architecture years ago to expand its reach into the growing suburbs of Cypress and Cinco Ranch. The result: two dynamic, expansive campuses designed to engage and connect with their communities.
Kirksey’s innovative designs earned recognition in 2017, winning the WFX Solomon Awards for Church Building Design and Youth Spaces.
Each campus features a 168,000-square-foot building with worship-in-the-round seating for up to 4,500 people, creating an immersive experience. The design includes a 25,000-square-foot nursery, a Growing in God’s Love (GIGL) Theater for prekindergarten children, a Jump Theater for elementary kids, and specialized spaces for junior high and high school students, supporting spiritual growth for all ages.
Beyond worship, the campuses offer amenities like playgrounds, cafés, and media spaces, with a Texas-inspired design of limestone and exposed wood that blends seamlessly with the surrounding neighborhoods. Both campuses also provide ample room for future growth, ensuring that Second Baptist’s mission will continue to thrive in these communities for years to come. This project holds a special place in our hearts, as the Cypress campus has been Jing’s family’s home church for over 16 years!
