Glenwood's grand gathering place
Houston’s Glenwood Cemetery has long been a place of reflection, history, and remembrance. Established in 1871, it is the final resting place for many of Houston’s most notable figures, including business leaders, philanthropists, and cultural icons. Yet, as the city evolves, so too must the spaces that preserve its heritage. The Center for Glenwood, a multi-purpose family and education center, stands as a testament to this balance between past and future—an award-winning project that continues to receive acclaim years after its completion.
Designed by Houston-based Dillon Kyle Architects and opened in November 2023, the Center for Glenwood is a 12,000-square-foot family and visitors center providing a peaceful space that enhances the cemetery’s serene landscape while serving the needs of families, researchers, and staff. With dedicated rooms for private gatherings, events, and genealogical research, The Center provides a welcoming environment for those seeking connection and history.
Even six years after PRISM was engaged to produce the animation for the capital campaign in 2018, the impact of this project continues to resonate. In 2024, The Center for Glenwood was named a finalist for the prestigious HBJ Landmark Awards in the Community Impact category. And the recognition hasn’t stopped—this year, it stands as a 2025 ULI Development of Distinction Award Finalist in the Non-Profit – Small category for projects under 100,000 square feet.
These accolades highlight not only the architectural beauty of the project but also its meaningful role in the city of Houston. Glenwood Cemetery remains a place of remembrance, and The Center ensures that future generations can continue to appreciate its legacy. PRISM is honored to have played a role in bringing this vision to life, and we celebrate its ongoing success as a vital part of Houston’s cultural landscape.
