Farewell to February, Hello Spring
Kirby Grove Highlights Upper Kirby Green Space
Construction is nearing completion at Kirby Grove, featured above and designed by our client, Munoz + Albin, who is known for their international design expertise. This multi-use development from Midway is centered around Levy Park (shown at left in the rendering above), the recipient of a $15 million overhaul. The recently opened park (photo inset) features a children's play area, interactive water features, a performance pavilion, and a dog park. Midway anticipates Levy Park will fill the void for much-needed green space in Upper Kirby, and bring more visitors to Kirby Grove to enjoy the upscale dining and shopping. The building totals 225,000 s.f. and stands at 16 stories. Kirksey is the architect of record.
An Insider's Look at Chinese Development
Jing and her husband Warren spent 10 days in the coastal city of Zhuhai, China to visit her family for Chinese New Year. This annual trip was not only wonderful for spending time with loved ones, it was also a fantastic opportunity to see firsthand the scale and breadth of construction in China. Mixed-use development has been popular in major Chinese cities for many years due to the high urban density. This new project, Huafa New Town, illustrates the importance of walkability and useable outdoor space. A new 25 million square foot development recently broke ground in Zhuhai and will bring even more pedestrian-friendly green space into the increasingly developed urban core. Zhuhai has seen explosive economic growth recently thanks to its location between Hong Kong and Macau. In January, Zhuhai celebrated the opening of their new $158 million seaside performing arts jewel, the new Zhuhai Opera House.
Attitude of Gratitude
“Servant Attitude” is one of PRISM’s core values. We try to live this out by partnering with our clients rather than treating them as just buyers of services. Ongoing feedback is critical in the quality of deliverables we produce and the service we provide. Equally important, we want our clients to know how much we appreciate their trust in us. Last month we sent customized thank-you cards to all the clients who procured renderings in December, resulting in an $1800 donation to MD Anderson Children’s Art Program. Our long-time client Kirksey also allowed us to bring them an authentic Chinese meal and celebrate Chinese New Year with their staff. THANK YOU to all our clients for the opportunity to continually earn your business and serve your needs!
Curtain Rises on new A.D. Players Theatre
“When you learn, teach. When you get, give.” This is a Maya Angelou quote, but we feel it perfectly describes Jeanette Clift George, founder of A.D. Players Theater and a Golden Globe nominee. Mrs. George graciously offered a special performance of their opening show, To Kill a Mockingbird, for all those involved with the design and construction of the new theater. We attended the performance and were amazed at the acoustics and views of the stage. It’s also interesting to note the creative ways Mr. and Mrs. George incorporated the Christian focus of the theater in the building; six Bibles are buried in the foundation, and scripture verses are written on the floor under the carpet. Congratulations to our client Gabriel Architects, and the rest of the design and construction team, on such an outstanding new performance venue.
ENR Taps Judge Jing Again
Engineering News-Record invited Jing to judge for the third time the Texas/Louisiana 20 Under 40 Top Young Professionals contest. The program routinely draws a diverse range of submissions from all corners of the AEC profession. With such a qualified field of entrants, the judging is very intense. One thing that particularly stood out among the winners is that all the entrants showed an impressive list of professional accomplishments in their work. Further, they've also contributed substantial time and energy outside of work to make an impact in their communities. This year’s winners are quite exceptional!
